Flying is stressful enough without having to worry about what you should wear. Here are a few of my suggestions on how to dress for short and long haul flights, as well as in the winter and summertime.

Long Haul Flight

The most important thing to keep in mind when dressing for a long flight is… COMFORT! Wear clothes that are soft and won’t rub you the wrong way. I like to opt for lots of cozy layers that I can take off and use as a pillow if necessary. Slip on shoes are also a must, as are stretchy leggings. I love the look of these faux leather ones as they make me look a bit more sophisticated than I actually am. I’m also a huge proponent of fanny packs (or bum bags, if you’re in the UK!) on long flights. They’re the perfect place to hold items that you constantly need like your passport, ticket, earphones, etc. Lastly, I never travel with metal jewellery. It’s a hassle to take on and off through security checks, and I don’t like the risk of accidentally leaving it behind!

Short Haul Flight

On 90% of the short haul flights I take, my biggest worry is getting caught for having a carry-on bag that is way larger and heavier than it’s allowed to be. When you’re flying super cheap airlines like Ryan Air and Easy Jet, the luggage fees are sometimes more expensive than the flights themselves! For that reason, I always try and wear my heaviest clothes on the airplane. In fact, I once had to put on 6 layers in order to get my bag small enough to appease a woman at the check-in counter (but I saved €40!). Jeans and a heavier jacket (like this beauty from BDG) are usually my go-to.

In Winter

When traveling in the winter, you want to wear clothes that will keep you warm during your trip to and from the airport, but that aren’t so bulky that they’ll suffocate you on the plane. I usually opt for a long sleeved top and stretchy pants (I LOVE these gingham trousers from TopShop) paired with lots of cozy items that you can layer up, such as this chunky scarf and beanie. I hate having cold feet, so I usually wear boots on a plane in the winter. However, I always make sure they’re slip-ons so I can easily take them off once I get to my seat. These vegan Doc Martens are at the top of my wish-list.

In Summer

I like wearing layers when I fly in the summertime so that I can keep warm if the flight is cold, but then peel them off once I land. These Teva sandals are my go-to for stylish yet super comfortable walking shoes. When I was working as a tour guide, I’d wear them on my 12 hour shifts and they kept my feet feeling very well supported throughout the day. If I’m going on a beach holiday, I usually try and include a bag that I can use both at the beach and out at night. Also, I love traveling in a jumpsuit (like this one from Urban Outfitters) because they’re SUPER comfortable yet stylish.
